Durum wheat the golden grain 6 Feb 2008
Growers producing durum wheat are set for a windfall with the grain being sold for $600 to $650 million per tonne compared with a long term average for all wheat of $180 per tonne. The golden, high protein grain that is used for pasta production has only been permitted to be exported since last August and the partial deregulation of the wheat market. Grain Trader OzEpulse has exported almost 20,000 tonnes to Italy so far at prices over $700 per tonne, including handling and transport.
