Minister says Glencore OK
14 Feb 2008

The Agriculture Minister, Tony Burke, has been criticised for granting a grain export license to Glencore. Parent company Glencore International AG was named in a UN Security Council report in 2001 as one of the companies that were involved with irregularities under the UN Oil for Food program. The Swiss company has denied any wrong-doing and Mr Burke said Australian registered Glencore Grains was well-regarded and that he was not aware of anything to suggest that it was not fit to trade wheat. Nationals leader, Warren Truss, said that Labor was being hypocritical in allowing a company to export that had "committed the same misdemeanours as the company he's taking the single seller status away from".
