WA farmers ready for bumper crop
25 Mar 2008

Farmers in Western Australia are hoping that solid rain falls over the next month will transform their dry paddocks into a frenzy of activity as they stand ready to plant their largest crop ever. Despite the challenges of higher fertiliser and chemical costs, wage rates and fuel costs, many farmers will be tempted by soaring world commodity prices and the state could produce as much as 16 million tonnes. The National Climate Centre is predicting a 45 to 50 per cent chance of higher than median rainfall between March and May for WA.
