Farmers find their niche as Asia goes with grain 21 Apr 2008
Grain farmers in South Australia are forming their own businesses in order to sell high quality flour to Subway and Walmart. The South Australian farmers from Orroroo are selling frozen flour for fast food buns. The South Australian farmers are not the only farmers to be selling this niche product, superfine wool is also being sold directly to Saville Row tailors. Flinders Range premium grain is aiming itself at the high protein end of the Asian market. The higher the protein content the better the dough is for freezing. The co-op sent 400 tonnes last year and expects to sell 600 tonnes this year.
