Western wheat crop looking weak
12 Jun 2008

CBH Group cuts its estimate for the grain harvest in Western Austraia because of dry weather. The grain handler and marketer put output of all grains at between 8 million and 12 million tonnes, well down on the company's previous forecast of 12 to 16 million tonnes. Australia had its driest May on record. Global wheat prices have plunged 40 per cent from a February record on expectations of a bigger crop in Australia that may not be realised.
