GM wheat yields up 20 per cent

Trials of genetically modified wheat in drought stressed areas of Victoria are showing yield improvements of about twenty per cent over non-GM varieties. Trials of genetically modified rye grass pastures are showing improved milk yields from dairy cows of about twenty per cent. Molecular Plant Breeding CRC chief executive Glenn Tong said the results were very promising but urged caution adding that there were many field trials to come. The GM drought-tolerant wheat is not expected to be released to the market for at least another eight years.
