National Foods dairy deal 8 May 2008
In an effort to clear any competition hurdles, National Foods has told the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that it would consider selling assets to ensure that a planned take-over of Dairy Farmers can proceed. The ACCC has written to key players in the dairy industry asking for the views on the proposed $800 million purchase and the letter includes mention that "National Foods may propose a divestiture undertaking in relation to its acquisition". Industry speculation is that the divestment wsould most likely be in NSW and South Australia where the Dairy Farmer white milk brand and National Food's Pura brand are strongest.
