Chinese driving dairy boom
29 May 2008

A baby boom and growing middle class are expected to see China's consumption of dairy products increase dramatically. Last year was the year of the golden pig which only comes once every sixty years and is believed to be a very auspicious year for having babies. The increasing middle class will want to feed these babies well, and that means dairy, according to Carlo Caini from boutique strategy and investment advisory firm, Caiani and Company. Drought has driven down dairy production levels in Australia but, while we have less milk to export, the world market is short of product so there a very good prices says Dairy Australia’s international analyst, Michael Harvey.
