Suppliers abandon Warrnambool''s low prices
16 Apr 2009

Warrnambool Cheese and Butter lost 280 million litres of milk supply when it announced big price cuts three weeks ago. Dairy farmers jumped ship quickly and easily to Murray Goulburn with a few being picked up by Fonterra. WCB suppliers received notification in the last week of March that their income was to be slashed immediately to 18c/litre and then to 12c/litre in June. At the same time WCB was putting together funding for a joint venture with National Foods to own and operate Australian Cheese Company.
