Guest workers face fee rip-off
20 Aug 2008

Aid agencies say they are establishing a web site to allow guest workers coming to Australia compare fees and transaction costs of the various available methods of sending money back to their families in their home country. Workers could lose up to half of their wages says the World Bank. Last year Pacific workers in Australia and New Zealand were paying on average 15–50 per cent of their money in transaction costs. That has since declined as New Zealand has introduced its guest worker scheme.
