Freight costs rise in line with diesel
7 Jul 2008

Trucking contractors are increasing their rates more frequently and imposing fuel levies to cover the increased cost of diesel. Diesel at present costs in the range of $1.80 to $2.00 a litre in most areas. The National Farmers Federation estimates fuel costs account for nine per cent of farm inputs. Fuel costs may be as high as 25 per cent of inputs in broadacre cropping areas.
