Rig registration fees rise and fall

Transport costs may rise for some farmers. Truck owners are facing up to a three-fold increase in vehicle registration fees under a discussion paper released by the National Transport Commission. Fees for B-doubles will jump from $7,600 a year to about $17,000. But registration charges for semi-trailers with six axle could drop from $4,800 to between $4,000 and $4,500 under the plan.
