Tight supply favours Aussie dairy farmers 27 Jan 2005
World dairy prices are increasing as the tight balance between supply and demand on the global market intensifies, according to Dairy Australia. Milk production has fallen the European Union and in the United States. Production in New Zealand is also down by three per cent. Dairy Australia says Australia has seen a steady start to the 2004/05 milk production season. DA said there is the risk of a warmer-than-average summer, but that feed grain costs are expected to be lower this season, and supplies of hay, silage and water were believed to be satisfactory. The industry group said that high oil prices were affecting fertiliser prices and transport costs ever upwards. However, farm gate prices had been increased at all the major Victorian co-operatives.
