Livestock profits on the rise, but wheat profits set to fall
15 Mar 2005

Beef producers with more than 300 cattle can expect their cash incomes will average $106,000 in 2005, according to government think tank ABARE. But specialist wheat and crop farmers will have their average farm cash incomes, which were nudging $200,000 last year, slashed in half, to $85,000 in 2005, thanks to low prices and poor harvests. Specialist sheep producers with flocks of more than 3000 head will have average farm cash incomes of $86,000 in 2005, up 23 per cent over the year before.
