SA farmers back conservation levy to aid the Murray
30 Mar 2005

South Australian farmers backed calls by Environment Victoria for a levy on goods produced in the River Murray basin. Environment Victoria wants a levy – modelled on the 11 cent per litre levy on milk that raises $1.6 billion for dairy farmers – to fund conservation projects on the Murray. The SA Farmers Federation said it supported levies on environmental care to take pressure off farmers who now carried the brunt of the cost.
