Income payments and interest rate subsidies extended in north and central Victoria 5 Apr 2005
The Agriculture department declared a region that includes parts of Swan Hill, Gannawarra Shire, Moire Shire, Campaspe Shire and Loddon Shire in northern and central Victoria as eligible assistance under an exceptional circumstances declaration. The declaration means the region’s farmers may be able to apply for fortnightly household assistance from Centrelink and interest rate subsidies of up to $100,000 a year. The Government will not extend assistance for two neighbouring Victorian areas, the central and north-east regions, which have been EC declared zones for the past 18 months. The government said conditions in these areas had improved, and farmers had been able to re-build their herds.
