Wealthy cattle farmers consolidate their holdings
21 Apr 2005

Family companies make up 55 per cent of the land holdings of the top 10 per cent of beef producers, according to a study by Rural Management Partners. The researchers said that 30 family owned farming business could count themselves as alongside, or at least near, the vaulted status of corporate cattle producers. Eighteen family companies bought lands through the sale and dispersal of AMP's Stanbroke Pastoral Company.

10 more families paid between $20 and $50 million for cattle stations last year. Some families have aggregated properties capable of running up to 150,000 head of cattle, with asset values of $150 million.
