Timber investment schemes close early
1 Jun 2005

At least one timber investment scheme with tax advantages has already closed its prospectus one month before the end of the financial year. Gunns Plantations closed its woodlot investment scheme last week. Great Southern Plantations, a much larger scheme, says it will remain open until June 30, but financial advisers say some other timber investment schemes may close before the end of the financial year. Investors in timber investment schemes may claim a tax deduction in the current year on their entire investment. Timber is one of the few tax advantaged agricultural investments allowed under tax law.
