Roberts walks away from Ruralco takeover
6 Jun 2005

Tasmanian pastoral company Roberts Ltd walked away from merger talks with mainland country retailer Ruralco Holdings. The merger proposal was initiated by Roberts last month. Roberts said preliminary due diligence had revealed that a merger on the terms outlined in May would not provide the benefits originally anticipated. It is believed the effect of the drought on rural Australia was a factor in Roberts withdrawal. Ruralco has operations in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia and is the country's largest rural merchandising buying group for its 400-plus affiliated retail outlets.
