Fewer farms far more productive
14 Jun 2005

National Australia Bank said Australia had lost 30,000 farms in the past 15 years, and that extrapolating this trend out to 2020 suggested there would be about 100,000 farms remaining in Australia. NAB said its analysis shows that farms with turnover of less than $100,000 are disappearing, while farms with turnover of more than $100,000 are increasing, and that a decreasing number of farms were contributing an increasing value of national production. NAB said this was largely a result of agriculture's track record in productivity gains.
