Reviewers short-list regions eligible for more drought aid
30 Jun 2005

The Government's independent drought aid adviser, the National Rural Advisory Council, is finalising recommendations after a month of site visits. Last year, 22 regions in four states were denied a 12-month extension of exceptional circumstances declarations that would have given farmers access to range of subsidies and welfare assistance. The government granted a review of the areas' status under the $250 million drought package released last month. Of the 22 regions being considered for EC extensions, 10 are in NSW, three in Victoria, eight in Queensland and one in WA.
