Rejected Aust wheat could cost Pakistan $US30m
19 Apr 2004

The company hit by Pakistan's rejection of 150,000 tonnes of Australian wheat earlier this year will sue the Pakistani Government. Karachi-based importer Tradesmen International alleges that corrupt government officials rejected the wheat to pave the way for local holders of existing wheat stocks to make large sums of money.

Tradesmen International 's CEO Haroon Suleman confirmed last week he intends to take the matter to court unless his company is paid compensation for losses and damages of around $US30 million. Mr Suleman said the four shipments had met all contractual quality parameters. Numerous tests cleared the cargoes of karnal bunt, alleged to be present by Pakistani officials.

Queensland Country Life, 17/4/04.
