Budget: $400m to help farmers 4 May 2004
Next week's Federal Budget will allocate $400 million for the Government to help farmers deal with industry-specific problems as they arise. The package will be spread over four years and is likely to assist farmers who need to prepare for drought. It could also be used to provide incentives for young people to become farmers and to develop succession plans for farmers to hand down properties to their children.
The package appears to be separate from an expected $100 million assigned to continue the Agriculture Advancing Australia program, due to end this June.
