NSW slips back into drought
7 Jun 2004

Latest figures show that 80 per cent of New South Wales has slipped back into drought. Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said the state's farmers are looking down the barrel of a third Winter in drought unless a miracle happens in the next couple of months. In southern NSW only 15 per cent of crops have been planted.

Mr Macdonald said the chances of good rain over Winter are only average, but more than average rainfall is needed to break the drought. He also warned that price hikes are likely to start hitting supermarket shelves as the shortage of supply becomes more evident.
