Truss 'close' to making EC announcements

The agriculture minister Warren Truss said he would decide soon whether to make further declarations of exceptional circumstances that would enable further payments of drought relief. Truss said that 35 regions would be considered for a rolling-over of their assistance by the end of the year: 27 in NSW, five in Queensland, two in Victoria and one in South Australia. The majority of EC declarations expire in early December, though declarations in some regions expire next month.
