AWB supports ALP plan for wheat sales
6 Mar 2008

The AWB has urged the Coalition should support the Labor government's plans to dismantle the single desk for wheat marketing. Following the release of draft legislation yesterday, the managing director of AWB, Gordon Davis, said that if the Senate did not pass the changes by July, growers would be left in a "twilight zone" for the next harvest with the AWB required to run a national pool, but with no control over export permits issued to other companies. "AWB would have the responsibility to maximise returns to wheat growers but lack the ability to do so effectively," he said.
