AWB wants handlers to be more open 25 Mar 2008
There is perhaps some irony in the AWB being concerned that Labor's plan to accredit multiple exporters could lead to the emergence of three regional monopolies. Representatives from AWB have met with Liberal MPs urging them to push for changes to access provisions when the bill is in the Senate, which is controlled by the Coalition until July. The draft bill requires bulk handlers to give competitors access to their port facilities and publish their term and conditions, but the AWB wants more transparency including publishing fees, which ships are due in each port and what commodity they will be transporting.
