Wheat export changes ready to go
30 May 2008

Legislation to liberalise bulk wheat exports from July 1 has been introduced by Agriculture Minister Tony Burke. Multiple exporters will be accredited by Wheat Exports Australia which Mr Burke says will maximise incentives, minimise costs increase supply chain efficiencies, reduce risk and protect growers. "For the first time in more than 60 years, wheat growers will be able to choose who they sell their grain to, based on the best deal they can get," he said. The Productivity Commission will review the impacts of the new arrangement in 2010.
