Corn petrol can make greenhouse worse
15 Jul 2008

Biofuels are no longer seen as the answer to world energy shortages and could be making the food crisis in developing ountries worse while adding to carbon emissions. Subsidies and tariffs supporting biofuels "take food off the table for millions" the World Bank President Robert Zoellick said on Monday. The British government has linked biofuel production to higher food prices and higher greenhouse gas emissions. The European Parliament environmental committee has voted to scrap its target for biofuels to make up ten per cent of transport fuels by 2020.
