Australian quarantine biased says New Zealand 22 Jul 2008
Australia has strongly rejected New Zealand claims of politicisation of its quarantine processes in its response to the complaint to the WTO regarding the apple import ban. Biosecurity Australia allowed imports of New Zealand apples in 2007 subject to conditions which, the New Zealanders say, make it almost impossible to export to Australia. New Zealand has challenged the legality of that decision through the World Trade Organisation. Trade minister Simon Crean said quarantine processes were science based and WTO-consistent.
