Grain industry set for shake up
30 Jul 2008

The four big Australian grain merchants - AWB, GrainCorp Ltd, ABB Grain Ltd and Cooperative Bulk Handling are expected to consolidate following the abolition of the AWB''s 70 year old monopoly on wheat exports. International trader Glencore was reported this week to have bought a stake in GrainCorp. German grain group Toeffler has partnered with Elders. The world''s biggest private grain trader Cargills will apply for an export permit under the new export rules. Cargill have joint milling facilities with GrainCorp.
