Grocery inquiry to report today
31 Jul 2008

Fresh food growers, wholesalers and retailers may have to reveal more about their profit margins under reforms to be proposed today by the competition regulator. The ACCC will release its study into competition in the grocery industry which is expected to include a grocery watch scheme which will assist consumers to monitor retail prices. Woolworths extracts a return of 75 per cent on its Australian grocery operations. The government has signalled that it will probably accept the recommendations of the ACCC.
