Outlook depends on rain says RBA
12 Aug 2008

The outlook for the farm sector is highly uncertain says the Reserve Bank of Australia in its quarterly statement on monetary policy. Assuming rainfall returns to normal levels, farm production is expected to rise 15 per cent above last year''s drought affected result. The government projected a 20 per cent turn around for the farm sector in May. Irrigated agriculture will continue to struggle, while the total wheat forecast is down, despite recent rain in WA. Australian Crop Forecasters said there had been good rain in the south east regions in the last few weeks.
