Spring locusts getting worse 13 Aug 2008
There is an elevated threat of spring locust plagues in Victoria and southern NSW say government authorities. Egg-bearing locusts were recorded throughout 1.25 million hectares of country mainly north of Shepparton in Victoria''s irrigation district. The Australian Plague Locust Commission said it expects a significant hatching of locusts in October, potentially far worse than the outbreak in 2005/06. Authorities have about two weeks to act with insecticides, whilst locusts are big enough to identify, but too young to fly.
