Record harvest predicted in Victoria 19 Aug 2008
Victorian grain growers could deliver a record harvest worth more than $3 billion this year says the Victorian Department of primary Industries. Increased acreage under planting and higher commodity prices were underpinning the big season but rain over the next ten weeks was critical to achieving the forecast. Disease *or* adverse conditions could see the harvest deliver just $1.5 billion this year. The weather bureau said Victoria could expect average rainfall conditions over the next month.
