Pineapples in demand
18 Sep 2008

Pineapple producer Bethonga Whole Foods said it aims to send one million trays of its Bethonga Gold pineapples to market by 2012. The number of contracted Bethonga Gold growers will rise from 10 to 13. At present Bethonga harvests 500,000 trays a year at its 300-hectare home farm at Wamuran, north of Brisbane. The company''s contracted growers produce the remainder. The firm aims to maintain supply over a full year and to reduce perceptions pineapples are only a summer fruit.
