Internet threatens agri shows
22 Sep 2008

The Royal Melbourne Show and most other agricultural shows in regional areas are suffering from declining entrants. Farmers and graziers report that prizes and ribbons from agricultural society shows no longer bring commercial benefits in the form of higher sales and promotional benefits. Internet sales are taking over from shows as the leading venue for graziers in particular to showcase their herds. A trend away from smaller farms is also affecting the shows, although confidence among the remaining farm businesses is declining as well.
