Carbon plan will kill rural communities
24 Sep 2008

Liberal, National Party and Greens senators have urged the government to rethink a plan to encourage the planting of forests as carbon sinks. The plan will encourage the turning over of prime agricultural land for forestry, causing the destruction of rural communities and lead to the increased felling of native forests say the opposition and Greens senators. The proposal to provide tax incentives for planting trees passed the senate rural affairs committee with Labor support.
