Horse flu returns to haunt industry
26 Sep 2008

Voluntary vaccination of horses for equine influenza could be counterproductive because the horses could still carry and spread the disease said Victoria''s chief veterinarian. Lobby group, Thoroughbred Breeders Australia says the latest EI scare at the Eastern Creek quarantine facility showed that the disease could return and the government should lift restrictions on voluntary vaccination for equine flu. All horses currently being held at Eastern Creek are being retested for EI after one horse from the UK tested positive.
