Quarantine says don''t call us
26 Sep 2008

Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service is understaffed, forcing long delays onto importers of plant and animal products. Companies have been told to expect routine delays of up to 30 days *or* more and advised not to ring the AQIS helpline as they will be placed on hold for lengthy periods of time. Agriculture minister Tony Burke said the government was awaiting a consultant''s report into the quarantine system before deciding upon any changes *or* improvements.
