Sugar dairy and beef to win under trade deal
30 Sep 2008

The World Trade Organisation''s Doha round of free trade talks is not dead with trade ministers expected to meet again before the end of 2008 to finalise an agreement said the Australian trade minister Simon Crean. The Australian government says the July deal that was almost ratified before objections from India involved 70 per cent agricultural tariff cuts by the EU, the US and Japan. Australia is believed to have won more access to the EU for sugar, beef and dairy exports and more access to Japan for dairy exports. India said it wants an agreement but would not accept dilution of the Special Safeguard Mechanism.
