The Victorian state government has announced a $155 million drought funding package to assist farmers. The premier John Brumby said the situation facing the state''s farmers was as bad as it can get. The package includes extending water rates rebates and a subsidy for municipal rates and charges. The government will hand over $82 million in direct financial support to farmers, plus $22 million in funding for employment programs and $11 million to support drought affected communities.
