NSW farmers need more grain trains
20 Oct 2008

The federal government will today announce an inquiry into grain rail freight services in response to concerns raised by farmer''s lobby groups that the infrastructure may not be able to cope with the first decent crop in many years. A good harvest is likely from northern NSW, although southern NSW remains gripped by drought. The inquiry taskforce will consist of farmers, rail operators, grain marketing companies, unions and the state and federal governments. The minister for agriculture said he would raise the issue with the minister for infrastructure Anthony Albanese.
