River flows critical
5 Dec 2008

Total inflows to the Murray River last month was 140 gigalitres, 18 per cent of the long-term average of 780 gigalitres. November was the 38th consecutive month of below-average inflows according to figures released by the Murray Darling Basin Commission. The low flows are despite above average rainfall in the catchment area in November. South Australia has been forced onto the open water market to buy water for Adelaide and other cities in South Australia. Under low contingency plans, priority is given to critical human needs.
