Cattle numbers down
21 Apr 2009

The number of cattle on feed dropped ten per cent in the March quarter because of a slowing in demand caused by the global economic crisis says the Australian Lot Feeders Association. Cattle numbers on feed decreased in New South Wales and Queensland, while Victoria and Western Australia increased in line with normal seasonal patterns, ALFA said. Beef exports to Japan and Korea had fallen by up to 25 per cent in the first three months of the year, while domestic consumption of grain fed beef had risen by 18 per cent.
