Safety push for farmers
19 Apr 2004

Victoria WorkSafe and the State Government have launched a hard-hitting farm safety campaign in a bid to halt an increase in fatalities. WorkCover Minister Rob Hulls said that six of Victoria's 12 workplace deaths in the first four months of 2004 occurred on farms. He said the death toll is unacceptable.

The safety campaign will include a series of TV, radio and press advertisements focusing on the impact of farm deaths. WorkSafe inspectors will visit more than 500 farms to help farmers identify potential risks. A grants program will fund free consultancy services and machine guards to help minimise the risk of accidents involving tractors.
