Tractor trek for charity 10 Aug 2004
Long-distance treks to raise funds for charity aren't new - but they usually aren't made up of a convoy of old tractors. Members of the 9G Tractor Club, based in Western Australia, left Coolgardie on July 11 in a convoy of 17 1950s and 1960s Chamberlain farm tractors. They faced a journey of 5,000km at 40km/h.
After a long, slow journey the convoy reached South Australia last Friday, where they were on display at the Mt Pleasant showground before visiting Birdwood's National Motor Museum on Sunday.
The tractor convoy was raising money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
