Tractor sales recovered in 2004 8 Mar 2005
The Tractor Machinery Association said farmers spent more than $1.4 billion on tractors, combine harvesters and balers in 2004, with the biggest rise in turnover recorded in Queensland (up 40 per cent on 2003) and New South Wales (up 35 per cent). Machinery purchases are an indicator of farm confidence and investment. The association said every quarter of the last year resulted in record numbers of farmers making purchases. The figures were the best for 15 years. However, farm-buying patterns slowed towards the end of the year as the big dry reared its head again.
