Dam Leak cost midland farmers
18 Oct 2005

Farmers say they have lost water worth $300,000 through the leak and emergency works on the Tunbridge dam in Tasmania’s midlands. Fears eased of the leaking dam bursting its walls and flooding Tunbridge, with residents allowed to return to their homes in the town. Dam builder Dick Beckett, of Exeter-based Beckett's Heavy Plant Hire Pty Ltd, did not rule out sabotage but said the cause was most likely "something simple". One of the 12 farmers who developed the Blackman River Dam, Bill Webster, said about $300,000 worth of water had been drained to ease pressure on the dam. Repairs would occur early next year.
