Tassie export lettuce moratorium lifted
16 Apr 2004

A ban on exports of Tasmanian loose-leaf lettuce, imposed on March 31, has been lifted. The moratorium followed the discovery of the currant-lettuce aphid, and was lifted after national agreement on a stringent lettuce-handling quality assurance protocol. This certifies that lettuce product from Tasmania is free of the aphid pest.

Each consignment of loose-leaf lettuce exported interstate will be accompanied by a health certificate from Quarantine Tasmania to confirm it has been cleared. The consignments will be consolidated in Victoria for dispatch to other states. The quality assurance protocol will be audited each week for a month.
